Richard Madden Fan V4

Hello everyone and welcome to the 4th version of Richard Madden Fan! It was about time that I changed the old one, it has been up for almost an year and I couldn’t stare at it anymore :P This time I used the beautiful photoshoot Richard (and the Game of Thrones cast) did for Radio Times.

Together with the version I basically updated all the pages, especially the Richard and career ones. Have a look around and enjoy the new version! I would love to read some feedback, you can leave a comment here (I know there’s a problem with showing the comments, I’m working on fixing it. But I can read them!) or on twitter @rmaddenfan.

A Promise: Synopsis

Germany, 1912. A graduate of humble origins takes up a clerical post in a steel factory. Impressed by his work the elderly owner takes him on as his private secretary. His health declining, the owner is confined to his home, where the young man moves to continue his work. There he meets the owner’s wife, a much younger woman, beautiful and reserved.

As time passes the young man falls passionately in love but does not dare reveal his feelings. A romantic intrigue develops in this stifling bourgeois home, all looks and silences, without a single word or gesture of love.

When the owner announces he is sending his secretary to oversee his mines in Mexico, the wife’s stricken reaction reveals to the young man that she too has fallen secretly in love – a love she cannot express in the presence of her sick husband. She makes him a promise – when he returns in two years time, she will be his.

Separated by an ocean, they exchange passionate letters while awaiting the day that will reunite them. Then, on the verge of his return to Germany, World War 1 erupts. All maritime travel between South America and Europe is suspended…

Eight years later, with millions dead and Europe in ruins, the exile returns, to his homeland and to the woman he hopes has been waiting for him. But has their love survived the brutal passage of time?

THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM GAME OF THRONES 3X09

Richard Madden has spoken to EW and Zap2It about his character’s tragic end, and confesses, “It just really broke my heart.”

For Madden, one of the worst things about Robb’s death was how close Arya came to reuniting with her family. “That really cut me up even more,” he says. “With every episode Robb’s been further and further from the people he loves. For Arya to be so close to getting to me, I think that’s what really hurt because that’s what we all wanted — to get the family back together — even if it was only one of us coming back.”

He also recalls the heartbreaking moment shared between Robb and Catelyn (Michelle Fairley) right before they die, saying, “It’s Robb Stark essentially saying goodbye to his mother and giving up.”

But he does try to put a bit of a positive spin on it (if that’s at all possible). “Rather than it being something really bad, it’s a moment of tragedy and utter relief, actually,” Madden explains. “These characters have fought and fought and fought and it’s finally over.”

And as horrible as Robb and Cat’s deaths are, “I think Robb Stark dying in that way is one of the best things that HBO and Game of Thrones does so beautifully, and that’s just rip these characters hearts out in front of you,” Madden says. “This is so sudden and violent and horrible. The way I and the writers have tried to build him up, there’s no other way we could have killed him.”

Finally, Madden admits that it was difficult for him to say goodbye after finishing up on Game of Thrones.

He admits, “I got straight to the airport and got on a plane because I didn’t want to be there anymore. I cried the whole way. I was the crazy boy on the plane crying.”
