Robb Stark (Richard Madden), King in the North, and his army saw none of the action during the Battle of the Blackwater; he’s separated from nearly his entire family and, when circumstances might be at their most dire, he’s emotionally preoccupied with healer Talisa Maegyr (Oona Chaplin). As Madden sees it, mommy issues are partially to blame.

“I think that he sees this other woman as a breath of fresh air,” Madden tells The Hollywood Reporter, “especially because his mother and him start to have such a challenging relationship. And nearly every moment that you see of them together, is every moment they are together. You aren’t missing a lot of off-screen with them together.”

And last time viewers saw them, they saw quite a bit. Robb finally took comfort in Talisa after essentially jailing mother Catelyn (Michelle Fairley) for releasing Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). The rest of Robb’s family isn’t even in the picture, and as much as he does want to, Madden thinks a reunion with half-brother Jon Snow (Kit Harington) would be most helpful to his character–especially after being double-crossed by Theon (Alfie Allen).

It’s months after the “Game of Thrones” cast finished shooting Season 2, but Richard Madden is once again caught up in the drama and emotions of his character, Robb Stark.

Sitting in a gray chair in Santa Monica, Calif., he inhales quickly and deeply, his face contorting into what can only be described as a heartbroken expression, after AccessHollywood.com asks him about Catelyn Stark’s betrayal of her son.

In Sunday’s episode, the grieving Lady Stark confirmed she undermined Robb by secretly releasing Jaime Lannister (under the protection of Brienne), and sending him on a journey to King’s Landing in hopes of trading with the Lannisters for her daughters.

After a pause, Richard begins to respond.

There have been plenty of interesting changes to the characters introduced a year ago in “Game of Thrones,” but easily one of the most pleasant to watch in Season 2, is the hero’s journey taken by “the young wolf,” Robb Stark.

Played by Scottish actor Richard Madden, Season 2 began for the King in the North winning battles and showing off – so far – some shrewd logic (like keeping the most valuable prisoner, Jaime Lannister, with his forces).

But life slaying Lannister forces can be tough on a young man, and viewers recently saw Robb strike up a couple of conversations with the raven-haired Tulisa (Oona Chaplin, BBC America’s “The Hour”), the latest of which certainly revealed Robb in the first blush of a crush.

Richard actually played another young character, Romeo, who became quickly smitten by a woman — Juliet – in the Shakespearian play when he was barely 20, so do those first pangs of infatuation give Robb and Romeo something in common?

“Hmmm…,” he paused, after AccessHollywood.com asked if there were parallels among the young men. “I think it’s different. With Romeo, he’s kind of, very quickly head over heels and Robb’s got much more kind of reserve there, where he’s never been in a situation with a woman before, where he’s been taken by someone. Whereas I think Romeo [has] kind of been there, he’s fallen in love how many times already… Robb’s never been there and he doesn’t know what it is yet. And also, rather than kind of knowing how much he likes this woman at this point, he’s just kind of surprised and intrigued by her, and wants to kind of get to know her, this woman that challenges him, and is a kind of light in the darkness for him,” Richard added. “He’s not taking it all too seriously yet.”

“Game of Thrones” isn’t a show heavy with romance. On this epic fantasy series, beating hearts are usually cut out and thrown into the fire. But if there’s one character close to a romantic lead, it’s Robb Stark, the eldest son of Eddard Stark (who got beheaded last season).

Scottish actor Richard Madden is the man in the leather and furs, leading the men of the north of Westeros into battle against the Lannister clan. And to hear him tell it, pretending to be a medieval leader on the HBO series isn’t far from actually being one. At least when it comes to the smell.

Have you started to experience the intense fandom of “Game of Thrones”?

A: Not so much. I look quite different than I do when I’m on the show, I think. So people will go, “Is that? No, not really. That guy’s much bigger on the show.”  I’m cleaned up. My hair is a bit shorter, and I’m not in fur and leather and armor. So I’m a little smaller. This press tour is nice. I went down to Brazil and Mexico, and the people there know the show so well, it’s kind of overwhelming.  I take that as a compliment to all the hard work everyone on the show does

Westeros had the chance to interview Richard while he was in L.A. They asked questions based on what fans submitted them, so the interview is very interesting and at least different from the several you find online these days! Enjoy it! :)

I know you’re in LA right now, but you were in Miami recently?
“Yeah. I was in Miami, and before that Rio, and before that Mexico, and then before that New York. We did this big tour.”

I used to live in Miami, actually. How do you like it?
“It’s beautiful, it’s just like sunshine and heaven. It was my first time in Miami, and I want to go back to it, to paradise, get a yacht and just sail around.”

Some Brazilian fans wanted me to thank you for your visit to Rio, actually. Reading some of the reports, it sounded almost like Beatlemania.
“Not quite, not quite! No, it wasn’t as crazy as that, but we did have fans come out to our hotel after they found out where we were. I never expected we’d be in Brazil and having people ask us to sign books which we’re filming a show about.”

How is the experience of getting all that attention?
“I don’t really look so much like I do on the show, so I don’t get recognized that much. It’s nice, I can keep a bit of anonymity. But the nicest thing is that if anyone does recognize me and stop me, it’s not just because I’m in a TV show—it’s because they really like it. It’s the biggest compliment, that they want to come up and shake my hand and thank me for being part of this show that they love. It’s very complimentary and very flattering for me and everyone in the show.”
